What is WakkaWiki?

The Wiki engine running this site. A WakkaWiki is a server-side application that allows you to build and maintain collaborative websites which, typically, allow all users to edit any page, with full freedom to edit/change/delete the work of previous authors. At its core, it's what people call a Wiki engine — an application that powers a website with features similar to the original Wiki site.

Some of the WakkaWiki features include:

  • Very light-weight
  • Designed for speed and extensibility
  • Quick and easy installation
  • Integrated user management
  • Access control through per-page access control lists
  • Page comments (disabled here)
  • What You Think Is What You Get editing
    • Special care has been taken so Wakka's formatted output actually looks like you expect it to look.
    • There are no unwanted blank lines after bulleted lists or headers.
    • Indented lists can have multiple indention levels.
    • All formatting tags are easy to remember because they use Always Two Characters.
  • Full revision control
  • Easily customizable (this Wiki is an example)
  • File and image attachments
  • Support multiple sites running off the same Wakka installation
